“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” Oscar Wilde

Morpeth Theatre Group was originally formed as ‘The Morpeth Pantomime Society’ in 1979 by Christine Barron together with several parents of some of the pupils who attended ‘The Christine Barron School of Dancing’ in Morpeth. It was formed as a family society, and this policy of encouraging families to join is still being maintained today.

Rehearsals are usually held at the school hall at King Edward VIth, Morpeth. An open evening is held early in September where the script and characters are discussed, this is followed a few weeks later by auditions. The open evening is also used to introduce new members to the group.

We always welcome new members both on stage and behind the scenes. Whatever your skills - singing, dancing, make up, painting, woodwork or even making cups of tea we look forward to meeting you. Once the roles are cast, rehearsals begin and are held every Monday night during term time. The backstage team work from September through to show week producing scenery and props.
